Der Hochdruckspanner besteht im wesentlichen aus einem Schraubstock mit eingebautem Kraftverstärker, der es erlaubt, die Backen, die das Werkstück festhalten, mit hoher Kraft zusammenzudrücken. Die Anordnung ist derart getroffen, daß sich die bewegliche Backe (11) in der zurückgezogenen Stellung des Schlittens (10) über dem Kraftverstärker befindet, der im Schraubstockkörper (1) zwischen dem Widerlager und der Schraubspindel angeordnet ist. Die Kraftübertragung von der Schraubspindel auf den Schlitten erfolgt über die Spindelmutter (21), die sich in einem Ansatz (9) des Schlittens befindet und wobei auf die bewegliche Backe in der Spannstellung ein schräg nach vorne und unten gerichteter Zug ausgeübt wird. Diese Anordnung ergibt ein günstiges Verhältnis zwischen der Spannweite und der gesamten Baulänge und trägt insbesondere auch dazu bei, eine Verkantung der beweglichen Backe in der Spannstellung auszuschließen oder doch zu vermindern.
